House of the family

The house of my wife's family is a typically Taiwan town house. It has 4 levels and each level is about 100 m2. The ground level is for most families the shop where they earn their money, but my wife's family's shop was located somewhere else so they use this level for common rooms like dining, living and kitchen.

The 3 upper level belong to one separate part of the family.  2nd level is for mom and dad, this is their private quarter. 3rd level is for little brother and his wife and children, where 4rd level is for unmarried daughters... Little sister is married so she live with her husbands family. This is the traditional way in Taiwan. Sons stay home with mom and dad and unmarried daughters, and daughters move to the house of their husbands family. I think this arrangement is super smart and very practical as you have private life, but you also stay together and can help each other. Together and alone - at the same time!
